Odisha Enhances Emergency Healthcare with 150 New Ambulances

Odisha Enhances Emergency Healthcare

The Chief Minister of Odisha has inaugurated 150 new ambulances with the intention to strengthen the emergency healthcare services all over the state. The modernised ambulance network with faster and safer patient transport for critical cases is the main highlight of the project that the ambulances belong to.

The latest fleet consists of very well-equipped ambulances including Advanced Life Support (ALS) units. Five among them are specifically meant for airport and airstrip services and two are meant for cardiac care support in Jharsuguda. The combination of specialised and general response vehicles not only improves the quality of care but also makes it available right at the doorstep of the patients who need it the most.

The new ambulances are a part of the continuous efforts to enhance the emergency medical services in Odisha. The state has been allocated a total of 428 new 108-ambulances that will be replacing 419 old ones, including two that were damaged in accidents.
The 108 service is one of the main emergency helplines in the state, transporting approximately 5,000 patients daily to hospitals throughout Odisha. The health officials’ aim is to enhance emergency response times, increase patient comfort, and improve mortality rates during emergency situations by introducing modern vehicles.

The Advanced Life Support ambulances come with both equipment and trained personnel that are capable of administering critical care while en route to a hospital. This critical care could be the deciding factor during emergencies like heart attacks, severe injuries, or complicated deliveries. The airport-ready ALS units will also guarantee that patients who are either airlifted or flown in are continuously receiving life-saving care.

The state now possesses a more extensive and powerful ambulance network that is capable of being sent to areas where it is needed the most. This not only enhances accessibility in urban areas but also in the countryside where it is often difficult to get to a healthcare facility quickly.

Launching this service is a part of the overall health plan in Odisha which aims to reinforce primary health care and decrease the number of preventable deaths caused by delayed treatment. Improving the basic facilities, buying special-purpose vehicles and renewing the fleet of ambulances are the main actions toward a more durable health system.

This is a long-term investment in the health sector, as the officials indicate, which will permanently help in achieving Odisha’s health objectives. The state is expecting to enhance the results, especially in the case of life-threatening incidents, as a result of the quicker emergency response and better patient care on the road.
